Introduction

This Case is centered around Justice Sustainability. More specifically, how Sustainability is making its way into the Criminal-Justice system. The efforts of the Sustainability in Prisons Project (SPP) and their partnered organizations will be the primary focus. Since its founding, the SPP has established partnerships between correction centers, incarcerated individuals, universities, and other organizations in effort to achieve bringing science and nature into prisons. We define sustainability as “to reduce the environmental, economic, and human costs of prisons.” (sustainabilityinprisons.org). This case will highlight early phases, programs, and key members and institutions that make the great work of SPP possible. Furthermore, how they are expanding to reach a national SPP Network.
